_My Thoughts
Recently
I’ve been thinking about
my Feet
Our feet have a significant role to play in our daily life. If something is changing in our feet, it will affect our entire body.
I’ve been experiencing some painful problems with one toe on my right foot. I am keenly aware of the troubles just one small toe can cause that affects my entire body. I began to notice that my right foot was becoming very sore after I was outside working in my flower gardens for a couple of hours. My foot felt like it was on fire! So uncomfortable that I had to quit what I was doing and take a break.
Two years ago, I injured the toe that is right beside my “big toe” on my right foot. This toe was always a bit longer than my big toe, so it has always caused a little bit of a problem, and I was able to be comfortable for many years by wearing Birkenstock shoes.See them Here!
Birkenstock shoes are made in Germany, and they have been my shoe-of-choice since the late 80s. I got my first pair of Birkenstock’s Arizona sandals while working on my MFA degree in Art at West Virginia University. That first pair was brought to me by a friend who was at a college in upstate New York. I asked her to buy a pair from a local store where Birkenstock’s were sold. , She brought them to me when she came for a visit.
After I began taking students to Austria in the summertime, I located a Birkenstock store that was just across the border, in Germany. From that time forward, during my summer travels I purchased most of my Birkenstock shoes from that store.
But now, my feet are beginning to change and the shoes I always loved to wear are not working for me any longer.
However, I’ve learned that as I am now just about ready to celebrate my 83rd birthday on August 27, those beloved shoes are now not working because that troublesome toe has begun to bend and curve to the right, where my other three toes reside. This is causing pain, and even when I am not wearing any shoes at all, this toe is still complaining. Just putting on a pair of socks makes it start to throb.
Now, this is also a disappointment for me because I love to wear impressive, colorful, and well-designed socks!
I love the variety of beautiful patterns and colors and the construction of my favorite socks – made by Bombas! In fact, after I got my first pair of Bombas, I quit wearing all of my other socks. That includes the hand-knit socks I cherished, too. There is nothing to compare with a pair of Bombas on my feet! Talk about walking in heaven, which is what I feel like in my Bombas.
I’ve gifted Bombas to family members and some of them wear them all the time. I love to give people gifts that make them feel good, and Bombas is the best pair of socks I’ve ever encountered. Unfortunately, even my Bombas are causing pain in that foot. Now what?

Update on my foot:
For the past week, , I am sitting in my office or library, sifting through books and papers, and taking time out for some Arizona Green Tea, nice and cold, from my refrigerator. My green thumb is complaining because the weeding has been put on hold for now. I feel guilty knowing the weeds are rejoicing in my absence. My daughter, Ilsa, told me she thinks I am having the withdrawals since I can’t go out to work in the gardens this week.
I’ve been taking a medication prescribed by my foot doctor. The redness and swelling is coming down. I cannot walk on this foot unless I have on the special podiatric sandal the doctor put on me a week ago. This, of course, has altered my days quite a lot since I cannot walk outside much at all.
Feet! We just can’t function well when our feet begin to hurt.
This led me to do some research in my favorite book_The Bible.
To my surprise, I found so many different examples of the word, FEET. But, I will share just a couple of them – my favorites!
_Scripture
Yes! I’ve discovered that the Bible has a lot to say about our feet!
The word “feet” appears over 200 times in forty books in the King James version of the Bible.
Listen to “Footsteps,” Here.
- The Book of Psalms mentions FEET 23 times.
- The Book of Acts speaks of FEET 17 times.
Feet can guide us, give us good news, and teach us more about Jesus.
-
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).
And, just a couple more references:
- “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news” (Isaiah 52:7).
- Jesus washing His disciples’ feet is recorded in John 13:1–17.
- Bible Verses About Feet: 239 Scriptures on Feet in the Bible, King James Version.
Bible Verses About Feet: 239 Scriptures on Feet in the King James Bible.
Yes! I do my daily Bible reading with my Father’s King James Version.
After Dad died, my Mom began to use his Bible instead of hers.
In that Bible, my mother had many notes and writings on little pieces of paper.
I know the exact last day she attended a church service, because the bulletin from that service was in her Bible. Mom spent the final 6 years of her life in a nursing home, due to dementia. I TREASURE her last writings and her last day in church . Though Mom could not communicate eventually in words, she could still SING SONGS and never forgot the words or the melodies of them. MUSIC is something that comes from our SPIRIT – and our Spirit is eternal, and never lost. I am thankful for a GODLY MOTHER who loved Jesus, and the legacy she left in her Bible. Thank you, Esther Luella Kirker McKinney (1920 – 2007),
Mom, meet me at the Pearly Gate,
Think About FEET.
Think about what happens when we have an injury to our foot.
One of my most vivid memories of raising our five children is the day when Ilsa stepped on a rusty metal hanger and it went through her foot! The wire hanger was thrust completely through her foot, and it was hanging out on both sides of the foot. The trip to the emergency room was a nightmare. That hanger had to be pulled out of the foot as she sat there on the examining table. With five children, there were often trips to the doctor or the emergency room for accidents that happened over the years.
_Daily Action Plan
1_Read some additional Bible references to FEET.
2_Be kind to your feet! A nice fragrant lotion before going to bed will help you get a good night’s sleep.
I just bought a foot lotion and tonight, I will open that new bottle and apply it to my feet.
This lotion is: Intensive Foot Therapy lotion. It is “Frankincense & Myrh.” Oh, my feet are feeling so GOOD!
I purchased it through Amazon.
Good night, dear friends!

Photo by Lynda Lambert. Bare feet need to feel the earth. Try taking off your shoes, and go barefoot in your yard. It’s divine.

The ability to move about freely becomes quite difficult and painful.

How I Found HOPEFULNESS in Unexpected Changes:
I discovered a new life after sudden sight loss. For the next two years, I learned to see the world and my place in it in an entirely new way. I completed training for Personal Adjustment to Blindness, It took two years of training and lots of challenging work to learn to read and write using adaptive technologies for the blind. Ad the months went by, God was showing me that my creative life would continue,, but in some new ways.
I began to write Divinely inspired life lessons
New experiences and God-directed Opportunities
New DISCOVERIES to share with the world
