~ After Thinking About the Year ~ Poem
Note:
I wrote this poem for National Poetry Month, April 1, 2024..
National Poetry Month begins today, April 1, 2025.
This year, 2025, I am doing something NEW.
Why? I’ve entered my Past Publications VAULT, and I am bringing past published poems to my blog this year.
For me, 2025, is National Poetry YEAR. I will be posting poems from my Past Publications VAULT – from 1980 to the Present.
2025 is a milestone year –
FORTY -FIVE YEARS
of writing and publishing my stories & poems world-wide.

The Poem:
After thinking about the Year
After thinking about the Year
before breakfast today I
contemplate the vacant gravel
driveway as year-end holidays ended.
Everyone departed for home.
First , I thought of those who
greet the day before dawn,
hustle through heavy traffic on
Interstate 79 north, towards Pittsburgh,
just an hour away.
Kentucky daughter and her family
lingered another day longer.
Maryland son left a day early after
Nerve-wracking shopping adventure.
Our roots are deep here in western
Pennsylvania where
quality of life is abundant.
Remembering our dinner in
sea green dining room, grandma’s
tablecloth of bottle-green linen
under her exquisite
vintage field of
white crochet lace flowers
X-mas hemlock tree remains in the corner
years of family photos on tables and walls
zealously displayed year-round.
