The Poem: Pennsylvania Siesta
Pennsylvania Siesta
Taming the flowers begins early.
on late spring mornings
salmon pink double begonias
ruby-red foxy flamingo geraniums
one rare Purple Queen Spiderwort
spectacular Wandering vine.
Taming the tongue begins
in heat of a late spring morning
my neighbor preaches as I yank
out tall weeds with deep roots
from steep hillside garden.
She hopes to stop
The ringing in her ear.
She shows me
how she plants seeds
feeds her chickens.
Taming the technology tangles
revitalized my demanding day
when misplaced e-mails
flourished like wild snake grass.
resolved by a
technology wizard in Colorado.
Water drips down my arm
overflows tightly packed
flower baskets
glistens on wooden porch floor.
Pennsylvania afternoons
from 2 to 4 p.m.
my private time
for a siesta.
I dream of taming nature
and writing new poems.
