“Warm Thanks”

I have been wanting to tell you
thinking of you daily is easy
some time ago, I placed
the lovely shawl which you
knitted for me
on the back of my computer chair.
On some cold nights,
I have put the shawl around me
as I typed on my computer.
Most often, I just enjoy having it
draped over the back of the computer chair
to dress it up a little
to remind me
my writer friend Lynda is with me in
inspiration.
Your gifts of books, poetry, and the shawl
just keep on
giving.
Warm thanks to you!

From “Thinking of You,” a series of “”found” letter -poems.
“Warm Thanks” e-mail communication from a friend,, May 12, 2021.
Backstory:
This poem is a “found poem” and it was created from an e-mail message I received from a friend.
In a found poem, the poet uses a text that is non-poetic. The text is re-arranged into poetic lines, breaks, and spaces.
I have been creating “found poems” from letters, e-mails, newspaper articles, advertisements and junk mail for my entire career. I began writing found poems in my freshman year as I was working for my BFA degree in the mid-to-late 1980s.
As a high school student, I was influenced by the “Beat Poets.”
