Birthday –
In particular, I’ll be talking about my daughter’s birthday today.
Salome Heather Lambert Mengel, was born in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, on February 23, 1963. She is our first-born child. Over the years, we welcomed 4 daughters and 1 son into our family. I can highly recommend the joy of raising children, and watching them grow and become beautiful adults over the years.
Recently, , my daughter, Salome’ Heather celebrated her birthday with me at a Syrian restaurant. We like to go at a time that is after the lunch hour, and before the dinner hour. This is usually a time when there are less people dining, and we don’t feel rushed. We can sit and talk and enjoy our meal. There was only one other table occupied. With the Syrian music softly in the background, it did not interfere with the peacefulness of talking to each other. We placed our order for our favorite meals, and waited for them to arrive as we sipped our drinks and talked.
She commented, “I am sixty-three today and was born in the year, 1963. I think that is something to celebrate. ” Of course, I agree.
Sixty-Three is a notable number and it’s worth a pause to think more about the meaning of the number, sixty-three.
I refer to my Source of Truth – the Bible.
Do you know_there are 12 words and phrases in the Bible’s original languages that are recorded exactly 63 times? I thought, this could be something I might want to look into for some future writing projects.
Scripture
For my daughter’s birthday, I selected a Psalm that is like her, so beautiful.
Psalm 63, a psalm that I could read every morning of my life, and begin the day with King David’s WORDS.

Today, I consider what it means to celebrate a birthday.
Below, I am sharing a poem I wrote about Salome’ in April 2023.

Rescuing Salome’
Salome’ reclines on soft king -size bed
Secure, protected.
Solitary soul with book in hands
reads of exotic terrain
considers reverberating sounds
Pulsing, lively voices
rising rapidly
remembers interior nightmares
songs of silent tragic warriors
photographic reminders of reality.
Colorful painted fingernails
self-care is a lifeline to the soul.
Scent of patchouli permeates the room
refreshes a strong mind
rescued from reality.

Note About my Blessing Articles:
In 2026, I am authoring a weekly article on my blog Walking by Inner Vision This is a collection of non-fiction stories based on the theme of “God’s Blessings.” I publish one every Sunday, and plan to create a book for publication in 2027. I am creating the book simultaneously, with each week’s focus and essay, here on the blog.
Writing a sequence of short essays, or memoirs, requires discipline and foresight. As I begin to author the essay for the week, I never know in advance what I will be writing. I wait to see what God has in mind for me to talk about. Often, the theme does not come to my mind until Saturday. In fact, I begin writing without knowing where it will eventually lead me. I think of it as a little journey that begins with no destination in mind. As I travel down the distant pathway, the theme begins to weave a story that will eventually be an article like the one you are reading right now. I walk in faith, knowing that before Sunday arrives, the theme will be established and my article will be submitted for publishing on my blog.
Themes are so much like my springtime journeys and the joy of walking on a beach looking for shells.
Though I am retired from my long-distance and international travels and teaching adventures, I am still faithfully searching for objectives every day and waiting for God to lead me to the theme for my writing projects.
In the same way that I walked with my students on the beaches in Puerto Rico, , eventually, I still discover the beautiful shells among the faithful words in my stories and poems.
Thank you for walking on this literary beach with me.
Daily Action Plan
- Stop right here and ask God to speak to you as you begin to read His Word, the Holy Bible.
Be still and quiet, as you begin to read today. God speaks to us, as we are reading His Words.
- Read Psalm 63 in your favorite version of the Holy Bible. I like to read aloud, as it fortifies the words in my mind. You will be aware of a lot of mental clutter as you begin to quiet your MIND to read. This is normal. Settle yourself down, and begin to read. For me, reading the scriptures aloud takes me to the quiet place where I experience God speaking through hiss word.
3,. Select one line or thought that speakes to you as you are reading. Write it down and review it or speak it aloud several times during the day. Perhaps read that one verse aloud before going to sleep tonight. See what happens when you speak to God before going to sleep. It’s awesome!

EXTRA…EXTRA…
Below is the message I wrote in my journal at the end of December 2022.
“Two more days before I get my “ONE WORD” for 2023. Two more days to live with my 2022 word, “Evergreen.” I have had eight years of choosing ONE WORD for the year at this time. I have learned so much by doing this. Each year I find that the word takes me on journeys and gives me new ideas and wisdom. I grow and expand in new ways.”
_Daily Action Plan
As you read Psalm 63, think about the individual things you would put into the form of a song. You can use King David’s Psalm 63, for some ideas of how you could also write a song to God. Sing your song out loud today as you praise God for all that he has gifted you with over the birthday’s you have enjoyed with family and friends.

What inspired me to begin writing blog posts about BLESSINGS?
In November 2025, I participated in a 21-day challenge to write three blessings each day (for 21 days) I began to see blessings in my life every day. Perhaps blessings were always there, but at this time I became aware of them because I was thinking about writing them down. When we can write down important things in our daily life, we can grow significantly in our spiritual walk with God.
This new awareness of daily blessings has become a template for living.
Thus, my awareness has led me to share what I am learning and receiving. I have discovered that my days are so much better since I began to look forward to those discoveries.
