Watching Summer Sky
by Lynda McKinney Lambert
Date – October 23, 2025
The Poem:
watching summer sky
where cloud movements never stop
white sheep gathering
across heavenly ambit
splendor overflows above

The Backstory:
As I walked leisurely with my dog, Miss Mitchell, along the edge of the woods, I looked up and saw the sky filled with clouds, and I remembered how it felt as I wrote this poem later that day.
Most of my poems come to me in ordinary daily life activities.
It’s a matter of taking time to really look, and to see what is around me in the natural world.
I take time apart from my daily chores to go outside and just stand awhile searching the sky and landscape. I focus on feeling the atmosphere, moving currents of air, and the scene around me. As a visual artist, I learned that it takes time, and intention, to see the world we live in. This poem is a moment of time as I felt it on a summer day.
