~ National Pet Day ~
Honk, Beep, Toot

Good morning My Friend,
Today’s poem is a tribute to National Pet Day.
I wrote this poem as I enjoyed my morning coffee today.
I am posting it here for National Pet Day.
Isn’t it interesting that when we sit down to write, a remembered incident comes to mind and just like that, we have a theme. I write with my whole body and every little part of my body remembers just what happened at any time in my life and the whole body creates the poem.
I never know when I face that blank page what will be coming across my fingertips and typed to the page. I can expect new words, and surprises as I am writing. It is all part of the creative act of writing.
This morning, I remember the fun of opening the door in our house in the darkness of early dawn on one Thanksgiving Day.
All 3 of my beautiful and much-loved Chinese Geese came racing into the house. This is where I begin the story in my poem today. Honk, Beep, and Toot were the morning wake- call for the 5 sleeping children upstairs.
Fun was always a priority in our house, and this is a day that they all remember with laughter. As I completed the poem, I discovered a new word that I love – thwacked. That word was a gift as it came to me just when I needed it.
I love what the MOUTH does as we speak that word – THWACKED.
Happy National Pet Day from Lynda

“Honk, Beep, and Toot”
No one expected to hear
Alarming wake-up calls at dawn
Three white Chinese geese running wild
In circles through the house
One Thanksgiving morning
Now, marching with wings outstretched
Anxiously screaming orange beaks
Laughter, the response of our family
Panic, fear, confusion
Every goose in a frenzy,
Tooting, Honking, Beeping
Dropping feathers and more
A blustery trio seeking an exit
Yelling as six webbed feet thwacked out the door.

Happy National Pet Day to all.
I can’t imagine a life without pets.
