~ little pink buds ~ Poem

little pink buds

unfurling into delicate frilly

petal clusters

deep cerise dot in center

breathe morning sunlight

inhale sweet-scented fancy

pleated vintage peonies.

Lynda’s Reflection on this poem:

In my poems I sing praises to God for the beauty of His spectacular creations in our natural world,

I celebrate God’s gifts as I encounter them in my walks in the woods, standing on a ridge overlooking the flowing creek below, gazing up into the magnificent sky, or the tiny center of a fragrant flower like the one I describe in this poem.

The vintage peony plants in my garden were planted on this property around 1929, when this home was built by John and Amanda Duncan. Amanda told me that she planted these flowers when the house was built and that was in 1929.

Each spring the plants begin to come up from the earth, and the flowers are probably as beautiful as they were when Amanda planted them nearly 100 years ago. God’s world is amazing, isn’t it! I stand in reverence as I contemplate God’s gifts of abundance.

Lynda retired from her position as Professor of Fine Art and Humanities at Geneva College in 2008 due to profound sight loss.
