New Chapbook – Helping Hands – Check-Out Girl
Day 16 of the 21-Days of Blessings Challenge.
I share 3 blessings each day from my personal life experiences in western Pennsylvania.
Blessing 1: New Chapbook
There is something about a chapbook that attracts me to them. Perhaps it is because I taught bookmaking some semesters at Geneva College. I have a love for small books, and particularly if they are hand made and one of a kind piece of art.
I signed up for the pre-sale of American Poet, Paul J. Willis’s new release, Orvieto. It arrived and the book is a beautiful collection of poems he wrote during a trip to Orvieto, Italy.
This suite of twenty-six poems reflects his exploration of the city and it’s place in history as well as the present. Published by Solum Press.

Blessing 2: Helping Hands
With the help of my daughter and granddaughter, the house is now nearly ready for the installation of carpeting that will be tomorrow. I still have a lot of small things to pack up and remove from all the rooms but the biggest part is completed. One word to describe this project is “UPHEAVAL.”
Blessing 3: Check-Out Girl
I am blessed every time I see Linda who works at the check-out in our Giant Eagle grocery store. Linda is a little person, with a big personality. She knows us since childhood so we always have lots to talk about as we go through the line. She takes her time and there is always a lot of laughter and chatting, in the process of checking out with her. Last night we talked about cats, and Linda got out her cell phone to show us her cat as she told the story of how they found her in the newspaper.
That is the beauty of living in a small town – we all know each other, for generations. Just walking through the store doing our shopping, it is usually a time to be stopped and have some conversations with other shoppers. We stand here and there, in little groups talking about anything that comes to mind, with people we have known for decades.
Before we did the grocery shopping we had dinner together at a local restaurant. It’s the same thing there, the waitress spends a lot of time chatting with us from the time we arrive until we say, “Good bye.”
Final Word:
If a customer is in a rush, It would be wise to not get into the aisle behind us. Shopping is a very social time for most of us.

More About Lynda
Several Bible verses compare people to grass, including 1 Peter 1:24, Isaiah 40:8, and Psalm 103:15.
These verses highlight the fleeting, temporary nature of human life and its glory, contrasting it with the enduring nature of God’s word.
Our time here is like a dream, I think.
