Lynda’s Journal- Poem
~ Letter of Acceptance
The Letter: March 3, 2025
Dear Lynda:
Hello, we hope you are ready for Spring, We are!
This collection of poems is a breath of fresh air like Spring itself. This is a joyous collection of Nature poetry.
We were overwhelmed by the sheer number of excellent submissions we received for this Spring issue. By far the most ever. Selecting the final poems for this issue was difficult.
Congratulations, your (Abecedarian) poem, Painting Pictures of Abstract Flower Gardens, has been accepted for the Spring print issue of The Avocet, a Journal of Nature Poetry.
We know our readers will enjoy your work as much as we did. And we think you will be pleased and proud to be found upon the pages of this issue.
As a supporting subscriber, you will, of course, receive your subscription copy.
My Poem:
Painting pictures in Abstract Flower Gardens
Archival alabaster pigments splash across
bold yellow and brown Sunflowers beside
clusters of Shasta Daisies.
Dusty Miller shimmers in moonlight
Each night beside silver Liquorice
fireworks exploding from center circle.
Golden clumps of Japanese grass
hold my attention momentarily as
inky gestures are scratched over picture plane.
Unusually sensitive
knowledge comes slowly, in layers of
lemon coral Sedum (mexicanum)
Mounds surround white Geraniums
nonetheless, I am faithful to the process
overlooking distractions of years-
Passage of time sets the theme
quietly moves around three
red clots of shiny acrylic opalescence
spirals are reaching out
themes of ice-blue Japanese grass
ungulate beside a stony garden path
Visions are vicariously distanced
watercolor pages sliced apart with
X-acto (#1 knife Couteau) for precision.
Years pass while I am painting abstract
zones layered on archival papers and pristine canvases

Backstory:
I am an artist who creates paintings and fiber art. Various flowers and plants in the garden show up in my poetry at times. In this poem I take the reader on a visual tour of my gardens, and present those images in living color as I combine cognition with touch and imagination. The ABECEDARIAN poetic form is one I use often in my poems. I think of this form as a structure that I am building on, as I am working with the English alphabet from beginning to final thought.
My Writing Action Plan:
God has a life-affirming VISION for every person.
A unique personal plan is a foundational gift, given at birth.
We can learn how to find our gifts.
Discover the DREAM for your creative spirit.
Pray and ask God to reveal what he has planned for your life.
I promise, He answers in a way that might knock your socks off!
When the Holy Spirit gently whispers brilliant ideas and fresh discoveries, write it down.
Make it plain.
Stop running in circles. and quit ending up in the same old place where you were before.
God gives us a BRILLIANT PLAN that actually WORKS.
Seek God’s direction in all you do. Our Creator gives us all the guidance we will ever need.
Habakkuk 2:2-3 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
And the LORD answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.
