National Poetry Month

A Poem – a- Day

a GIFT from

Pennsylvania Author

Lynda McKinney Lambert

My poem for today is a poem inspired by a story from Greek Mythology that was written in the 4th Century BC.

   –

Slowly, Suddenly, Remembering Persephone,”

is on page 93 in my book –

Walking by Inner Vision: Stories & Poems, DLD Books. 2017.

Slowly, Suddenly: Remembering Persephone

by Lynda McKinney Lambert

ripe for contemplation.

the sun moves slowly

to center sky

stillness.

I remember

the springtime

picking flowers

things happen suddenly.

I drift in random circles

on the surface of quiet waters

beneath clustered branches.

the day can change suddenly

no movement in the tangled leaves

even birds seek shade today.

We danced through wild flowers

suddenly

we are invisible

and grow old

I shift forward

undulating slowly

to an old rhythm

summer’s sleep returns.

Random things bring quick changes

this evening is like

the moment before my birth

a full moon will rise this evening.

Pathway Through the Woods – Day #16

Lynda McKinney Lambert - American Artist & Author

April 16, 2020

National Poetry Month

A Poem – a- Day

a GIFT from

Pennsylvania Author

Lynda McKinney Lambert

My poem for today is a “Pantoum Poem.”

I wrote this poem in 2013  –

This poem  is on page 115 in my new book –

Star Signs: New and Selected Poems, DLD Books. 2019.

“Pathway Through the Woods”

by Lynda McKinney Lambert

My dogs know the pathway through the woods

they voyage over several times a day

on the glowing ridge, above the slate-green creek

where my ancestors watched the shimmering waters.

They voyage over several times a day,

dig wet noses deep under flat winter leaves

where my ancestors watched the shimmering waters,

scratch down into rich soil; seek out morning news.

Dig wet noses deep under flat winter leaves

when wild geese gather to begin the mating season

scratch down into rich soil; seek out the morning news.

as the citrine bright sun plays shadow games with bare trees.

When wild geese gather to begin the mating season

they shout an alarm, break the stillness of April’s dawn

as the citrine bright sun plays shadow games with bare trees.

We leap over abandoned gray branches

They shout an alarm, break the stillness of April’s dawn

the dogs sniff the breeze for current information

we leap over abandoned gray branches

criss-cross over the ancient valley path.

The dogs sniff the breeze for current information

gather gossip from crows flying through the woods

criss-cross over the ancient valley path.

Our morning journey changes with the seasons.

Gather gossip from crows flying through the woods

after the final snowfall has disappeared.

Our morning journey changes with the seasons

as we walk together in the luminous morning.

After the final snowfall has disappeared

on the glowing ridge, above the slate-green creek

as we walk together in the luminous morning,

my dogs know the pathway through the woods
