This poem is a perspective of winter time in Western Pennsylvania where I have lived my entire life. As I walk my dogs, I am paying attention to every detail, sound, and sight.

I focus on the color, red, in my world and in my memories.

A View of River Road Studio - on a snow day

Santa had filled our stockings just like he said he would. I was nearly finished opening them when I saw one final package for me. It was a bit heavy for such a small package, too. Once again, I had a burst of renewed energy and got excited with the anticipation of something that I would love to get from Santa. As I ripped the red shiny paper off the gift, my hopes turned to despair.

Charles Portolano, my friend and editor of The Avocet publications challenged me to write a poem based on a message I sent him as an e-mail.

His challenge stayed on the front burner of my thoughts for that entire day, and night.
