This poem is one of my most beloved poems.\u00a0 I created this poem from a scene in my childhood memories.\u00a0 It was one of those special moments in life when an adult teaches a child a lesson or skill that is treasured for a lifetime.\u00a0 This poem shows the relationship I had as a child, with my mother and grandmother.\u00a0 They were role models for me as they taught me the value of using my hands to create art.<\/p>\n

An afternoon embroidery lesson<\/p>\n
Beauty is a blue silk thread<\/p>\n
Carefully stitched into ivory cloth<\/p>\n
Did she know my destiny?<\/p>\n
Education begins in a quiet place<\/p>\n
For a little girl and her mother<\/p>\n
Grandmother\u2019s kitchen<\/p>\n
Holding on to a slender needle<\/p>\n
I slid through the secret places<\/p>\n
Journeys of self-discoveries<\/p>\n
Kitchens are sacred spaces<\/p>\n
Lost in timeless whispers<\/p>\n
My mother\u2019s patience is endless<\/p>\n
Needles, cloth, scissors, floss<\/p>\n
Objects are symbolic metaphors<\/p>\n
Powerful as distant legends<\/p>\n
Questions \u2013 could she<\/p>\n
Recognize these private moments?<\/p>\n
Sitting quietly with her child<\/p>\n
Time and inspiration are gifts<\/p>\n
Universal connections for life<\/p>\n
Visualized my inner longings<\/p>\n
Weaving strands of sunny days<\/p>\n
X-stitch patterns sewed in a weave<\/p>\n
Yellow-gold knotted threads<\/p>\n
Zinnias bloomed on my holy cloth.<\/p>\n
