{"id":915,"date":"0615-05-29T07:00:00","date_gmt":"0615-05-29T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lyndalambert.com\/?p=915"},"modified":"2025-09-14T14:18:46","modified_gmt":"2025-09-14T18:18:46","slug":"from-lyndas-journal_write-an-acrostic-poem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lyndalambert.com\/wordpress\/from-lyndas-journal_write-an-acrostic-poem\/","title":{"rendered":"Lynda&#8217;s Journal &#8211; Write an  Acrostic Poem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>Lynda&#8217;s Journal &#8211;<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>\u00a0 How to Write an Acrostic Poem<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">First I will give you directions for writing this poem.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Next, I will give you an example of an Acrostic Poem.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I used\u00a0 my own name as the starting point.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;The Sky Visited Me&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>About the ACROSTIC POEM:<\/h3>\n<p>Tthis is\u00a0 an \u00a0old poetry form \u00a0often used\u00a0\u00a0by poets to send secret messages to a loved one.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">You can begin by thinking of only ONE WORD.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">:Write the letters of that word down the left side of the page &#8211;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Example:<\/h3>\n<p>I will use my name to begin this poem<\/p>\n<p>My name is Lynda.<br \/>\nHere is how I would write\u00a0 the letters of my name\u00a0 to begin the acrostic poem:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">L<br \/>\nY<br \/>\nN<br \/>\nD<br \/>\nA<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>STEP TWO_<\/h3>\n<p>Begin each line of your poem using the letter of your WORD, for each line, as you write it.<\/p>\n<p>Yes! It is that easy!<\/p>\n<p>Here is what I wrote \u00a0using the letters from\u00a0my name, LYNDA.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>My Poem:<\/h3>\n<h4>&#8220;Dangerous Cats&#8221;<\/h4>\n<p>by Lynda McKinney Lambert, 2015<\/p>\n<p><strong>L<\/strong>avender mists covered the pathway in the woods<br \/>\n<strong>Y<\/strong>esterday the sky was gloomy and dark<br \/>\n<strong>N<\/strong>evertheless large black crows visited me<br \/>\n<strong>D<\/strong>angerous cats were near the nest<br \/>\n<strong>A<\/strong>ll the birds are on high alert this morning<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">**********<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>Would you like a Surprise?<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>Now, I want you to change it UP a bit.<\/strong> <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">You wrote the STRAIGHT ACROSTIC POEM.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>At this time, I ask you to rewrite that poem:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>mix up the lines<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>scrambling the lines and words \u00a0into a new order. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>You will<em><strong> disguise the original acrostic letters<\/strong><\/em> you used to begin the first poem, too.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">You should have a nice surprise when you take this next step!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Here is when the MAGIC enters your poetry!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">**********<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8220;the sky visited me&#8221;<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">by Lynda McKinney Lambert<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">near the nest<br \/>\nall the birds\u00a0were covered<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">by lavender mists<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">gloomy and dark<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">this morning<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0large black crows<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">the pathway<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">was \u00a0dangerous<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">the sky\u00a0visited me<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">yesterday<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">on high alert<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">all cats are in the woods<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">nevertheless<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">**********<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Lynda McKinney Lambert.
