This song also brings back memories of dancing with my husband at Gilley&#8217;s, July 1980. +<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">We flew into Houston over the July 4th weekend to attend the big party at Gilley&#8217;s. The air was so hot it took your breath away as we got off the plane. We rented a car and drove across Texas for a week. We found other places where we could dance as we traveled across the state. Bob and I danced at night and one morning around 6 am, we had the entire dance floor to ourselves at&#8230;..yep, you guessed it &#8211; Gilley&#8217;s.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>You can listen to Mickey Gilley talking about how he came to Paradise and opened Gilley&#8217;s.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/video.search.yahoo.com\/search\/video?fr=mcafee&amp;ei=UTF-8&amp;p=gilley%27s+in+texas&amp;type=E210US91088G91461#id=3&amp;vid=8447d2166b99a29cac04ad978045d73a&amp;action=view\">Listen now<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">**<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Step\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">2: <\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Select one or two lines from the song as a place to begin your poem.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Example<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> I chose the first two lines of &#8220;Waltz Across Texas.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">I wanted to write a poem about riding my motorcycle because riding is like a dance that you do with the bike.\u00a0 It is\u00a0 a wonderful feeling to ride with the wind and the road, and my friends. Despite the power and weight of the bike, it requires that you have a delicate hand &#8211; finesse &#8211; in order to ride well.\u00a0 When you do, it is pure magic like nothing else I can think of.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>What am I doing in the poem?<\/p>\n<p>Who is with me?<\/p>\n<p>How des it feel to be with this group of people ?<\/p>\n<p>How do I share my experience with the reader?<\/p>\n<p>*<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In the poem, I am riding the motorcycle on a frigid &#8211; cold day<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">with a group of other women riders.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">**<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The first two lines of the song are:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cWhen we dance together, my world\u2019s in disguise.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cIt\u2019s a bizarre fairyland tale,\u201d by Ernest Tubb.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Step 3<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">: <\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Choose the format you will use for the poem.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Example: <\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">I chose the Pantoum format because the repeating lines can give the poem some speed and energy by repeating lines.
