Bill was orphaned at 3 when<\/p>\n
Effie Pearl died from Spanish influenza<\/p>\n
Bill was Irish and German, with red hair<\/p>\n
Drafted into war before Virgo Girl\u2019s birth.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Virgo girl arrived on a Friday<\/p>\n
in August, 1943<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Esther wrote letters to Europe<\/p>\n
sent daily photos of Virgo Girl<\/p>\n
kissed her fathers framed photo<\/p>\n
every day for 2 years.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cDaddy is a piece of glass,\u201d she thought.<\/p>\n
Virgo Girl is the granddaughter of<\/p>\n
Ida Matilda<\/p>\n
a German woman who baked<\/p>\n
yeast-breads, frosted cookies,<\/p>\n
clover-leaf rolls and apple pies<\/p>\n
each Saturday.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Her grandfather, James Addison,<\/p>\n
sat at the kitchen table<\/p>\n
used his 3-pronged fork<\/p>\n
bone-handled knife<\/p>\n
teased Ida, called her Dutch.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Virgo girl never knew her father\u2019s family<\/p>\n
David Garfield and Effie Pearl died young<\/p>\n
County records reveal David was<\/p>\n
well-known for his baseball skills<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Effie\u2019s obituary states she<\/p>\n
was an honorable mother of five?<\/p>\n
only two of five red-haired children<\/p>\n
survived to adulthood.<\/p>\n

Friday\u2019s Child is loving and giving<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Daughter of women who tend old-fashioned<\/p>\n
pink roses and lily-of-the valley,<\/p>\n
and children who<\/p>\n
play in the woods, swim in the creeks<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Daughter of men who draw pictures,<\/p>\n
play trumpets, fight in wars and<\/p>\n
build houses with skilled hands.<\/p>\n
