Photos from River road Studio – Welcome, Friends!<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

Last week I shared a photo tour of my fiber art studio.<\/p>\n

To begin 2021, I started work on a new\u00a0 series of wall works.\u00a0\u00a0 I work in Encrusted Bead Working, a method of fiber art that is extremely complex because I am working with very tiny objects.\u00a0 Since I am visually impaired, I work by using n Acrobat CCTV.<\/p>\n

This wonderful machine helps me do my work.\u00a0 I will be sharing the studio and the collection of new wall pieces I am working on this year.\u00a0 I wanted to open my private studio to allow friends to see where I work and how the work develops over time.<\/p>\n

“Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring Series.”<\/span> will eventually be a group of 12 unique wall hangings.<\/p>\n

“Winter Wonderland”<\/span> will be the first 3 pieces in the series.<\/p>\n

I’ll share the progress of this first piece in next week’s blog post.<\/p>\n

Tuesday – January 19th, 2021 \u00a0– <\/a>\u00a0the temperature is a bit crisp\u00a0 and some snow on the ground today.<\/p>\n

By the end of the week we looked out to a Winter Wonderland – Perfect weather!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This is a vintage thermometer that we received one \u00a0year as a gift from my Aunt Jeanne and Uncle harry Hess.<\/p>\n

\"This<\/a><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Here’s the VIEW from our FRONT PORCH on Saturday Morning, January 23.\u00a0 Snow\u00a0 this morning was a nice surprise when we opened the door!\u00a0 The house in the photo is \u00a0directly across the road from the front of our house.\u00a0 We have been friends with three generations of the Koah family .<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>

From our front porch, we can see the nineteenth century farm house we love so much.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Now that you have stepped inside our home, you can see that our calico cat, Ivy, is hiding behind a door.\u00a0\u00a0 Isn’t she beautiful!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

When\u00a0 visitors come\u00a0 – all six of the cats vanish! Maybe this is why they call them “Scaredy Cats?”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0Lets go upstairs to the studio and I’ll show you a few of the\u00a0 PAINTINGS<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

that surround me and give me joy as I do my own work.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

I am inspired by the art works because each one holds many memories over the years of my art life.<\/p>\n

I created most of the paintings on the walls.\u00a0 Several others were done by friends or purchased\u00a0 from a gallery.<\/p>\n

I also love to have art works that were done by friends – and some that I’ve collected on travels. Each piece is personal and precious to me.\u00a0 I began painting in 1976.\u00a0 From the first day, I was hooked on painting.<\/p>\n

A corner with 2 figure paintings<\/strong> ~ and a Mandala Painting<\/span><\/h3>\n

that I purchased on one of my annual \u00a0summer trips to the Czech Republic. I love figure studies because in my own academic education I worked from live models every semester\u00a0 when I was a student at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I purchased several \u00a0figure paintings over the years.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>

This corner of the studio displays 2 figure paintings from Prague and a large Mandala Painting from a series of mine.<\/p><\/div>\n

In this photo, you can see 2 figure studies from Prague and a painting of a Hopi figure bursting from within a color mandala.<\/p>\n

I love working with cultural artifacts as motifs.<\/p>\n

And, I love the mandala’s that are ageless in origin. I think of them as a birth image.<\/p>\n

I combine cultural artifact images within the mandala.<\/p>\n

on display \u00a0in the studio.\u00a0 Part of a series of paintings using the mandala – in oils on canvas.<\/span><\/p>\n

Genre Paintings<\/span><\/h3>\n

As you enter the studio you see a large genre painting on each side of the entrance.<\/p>\n

A GENRE PAINTING is a PORTRAIT , or, a painting that has PEOPLE in it.<\/p>\n

These 2 paintings were done in the 80s when I was a BFA student at Slippery Rock University of PA.<\/p>\n

It was so exciting when figures began emerging as I stood working at my easel. This is when you know that the MUSE has arrived!<\/p>\n

This painting is to your LEFT as you walk into the studio.\u00a0 It is about 5 feet tall.<\/p>\n

Discovering images that are unseen is the most exciting way to paint!<\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

A few of my portraits hang on another wall –<\/p>\n

Rosella Childs captured me as I was painting in the studio at the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts – early 1980s.<\/p><\/div>\n

Daughter, Heidi, sat as a model for me one day when I wanted to do a painting in tertiary colors. I love this painting!<\/p><\/div>\n

I painted this picture of my father – William Joseph McKinney – from a photo I took of him one afternoon as he was looking at the water flowing beneath the bridge<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

In this painting, these 2 cowboys suddenly emerged as I was painting in my studio at Slippery Rock University of PA, – I was a BFA Student from 1985 – 1989.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

This painting was a gift to me by a former director of the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts. He had a one-person exhibition when I was the ED there (from1993 – 1996). I purchased one painting from his one-man show, and he gifted me another one. He was in his 80s at that time and this was his last exhibition of paintings.<\/p><\/div>\n

Bare walls are dangerous! I recommend that you allow the beauty of art to surround you in your home, too!<\/p><\/div>\n

\nPennsylvania fiber artist and author take us on a photo tour of her studio in The Village of Wurtemburg, in western Pennsylvania.
\nThis week she gives us a tour of some of the paintings on the walls of her studio. She also shows some work-in-progress in the studio. Lynda makes mixed-media fabric and bead worked talismans and wall hangings. to begin the New Year, she is working on a new series – Winter Wonderland .
