Christians around the world will \u00a0light\u00a0 a \u00a0candle\u00a0 today.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

We are\u00a0 focused on HOPE today!<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Anticipating the Birth of Jesus<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

We have HOPE<\/strong><\/h2>\n

HOPE \u00a0~ Advent ~ The First PURPLE Candle\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>The history of antiquity provides facts, events \u00a0and discoveries that influence our present day.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Did you know –<\/span><\/p>\n

Culture is what was left behind by civilization. Culture is the objects themselves and not the people group.<\/span><\/p>\n

Everything in our world today has connections to the past.<\/span><\/p>\n

Words – Buildings – Burial Sites – Art<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

King Solomon declared, “there is nothing new under the sun.”\u00a0 (Ecclesiastes<\/span> 1: 4-11)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As we take time to look at the past, we can get a better view of our present, and even into the future.<\/p>\n

The longer we live and learn, and the more we STUDY God’s WORD, the more we understand this truth about ourselves and the present things we see every day in our own world. <\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
One of the most significant events for humanity is the birth of Jesus. This is because, at this time, God took on a physical body in the form of a baby. Every detail about this historical event is supernatural. And this is why Christians take the four weeks preceding Christmas Day to celebrate the miraculous aspects of the Birth of Jesus, who is God incarnate. <\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

John 1:14 –\u00a0<\/span>See it here<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n

And\u00a0<\/span>the Word<\/span><\/em>\u00a0(Christ)\u00a0<\/span>became flesh<\/span><\/em>\u00a0(human, incarnate) and\u00a0<\/span>tabernacled<\/span><\/em>\u00a0(fixed His tent of\u00a0<\/span>flesh<\/span><\/em>, lived awhile)\u00a0<\/span>among us<\/span><\/em>; and we [actually] saw His glory …<\/span><\/p>\n

Today is the day to meditate on the PREPARATIONS that GOD PROVIDED for this supernatural and holy birth.<\/span><\/p>\n

What does this mean to me?<\/span><\/h3>\n

I’ve come to understand that my life is a sacred pilgrimage. <\/span><\/p>\n

Every life is sacred. Every life has VALUE.<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s taken quite a few decades to be able to see it so clearly as I do now. I’ve come to understand that this humble journey of HOPE \u00a0is what I’ve been writing about most of my life.\u00a0 My writing and my art are deeply rooted in the\u00a0 ancient past.\u00a0 My HOPE is in the God who created all life.\u00a0 My HOPE is in the WORD who became FLESH and dwelled among US. GOD entered into the world in the form of an innocent baby one dark night in Bethlehem.\u00a0 Mary was literally carrying GOD inside her BODY. Let’s not forget this fact as we think of a newborn baby – This is a supernatural event that we are witnessing as we read the Old and New Testaments in the Bible.\u00a0 There is nothing ordinary about this story – <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Just this week, I was able to put\u00a0 my FOCUS into a concise\u00a0 intention of all I do as a creative person-<\/span><\/p>\n

Seeking Euphoria<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Before I retired from teaching at Geneva College, I enjoyed sharing historical discoveries with students. I lectured in the Humanities courses. I taught classes and lectured on the periods from antiquity to the present.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

TODAY, the CELEBRATION is for the PREPARATION of the birth that changed the course of history, and the world, forever. Every\u00a0 Christian understands that they are in PREPARATION for eternity.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0As I light the FIRST CANDLE today, I am\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em>making my declaration of HOPE personal:<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

I am passionate about everything that I love \u2013 and those things are what I write about.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0My first article with a focus on ADVENT was on this blog in 2014.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

I had no idea that the first post on lighting the Preparation Candle would be an abiding interest in Advent.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is now November 29, 2020, and I am still fascinated with Chapter 1 of Matthew’s Gospel, where he recounts Jesus’s birth and naming and the beginning, and where he states that Jesus was <\/span>born in Bethlehem<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0during the time of Herod the Great. I lectured on ancient architecture \u2013 so as I begin to learn more about the people who lived in the times when architecture was developed, I am super interested.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am particularly fascinated by how those ancient events are celebrated by people living in the 21st century.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Make your own ADVENT\u00a0 Wreath:<\/span><\/h3>\n

During the four Sundays of Advent, churches and homes of Christians are illuminated with candles. Followers of Jesus light the candles of their Advent wreaths. The candles are placed into the evergreens in a perfect circle to symbolize God’s eternity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Purple<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(or\u00a0<\/span>violet<\/span><\/strong>) has traditionally been the primary color of\u00a0<\/span>Advent<\/span><\/a>. This hue symbolizes\u00a0<\/span>repentance<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>fasting<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The spiritual discipline of denying oneself food or some other pleasure is one way Christians show their devotion to God and prepare their hearts for his arrival. Purple-violet is also the liturgical color for Lent’s\u00a0<\/span>season<\/span><\/a>, which similarly involves a time of reflection, repentance, self-denial, and spiritual readiness.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Purple is also the color of royalty and Christ’s\u00a0<\/span>sovereignty<\/span><\/a>, known as the “King of Kings.”<\/span><\/p>\n

So, purple in this application demonstrates the anticipation of and reception of the coming King celebrated during Advent.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, many churches have begun to use\u00a0<\/span>blue<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0instead of purple to distinguish Advent from\u00a0<\/span>Lent<\/span><\/a>. Some Christians now use blue to signify the color of the night sky or the\u00a0<\/span>waters of the new creation<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in Genesis 1.<\/span><\/p>\n

I can never read the First Chapter of Genesis I enough\u00a0 because it is thrilling\u00a0 to read the Creation story. My latest full-length book of poems is called Star Signs \u2013 because of the exquisite and intimate imagery in Genesis 1 and the heavenly beginnings of the universe and the world that we live in at this time. At night, I stand, and I look up at the sky in all seasons. And, to know that God Almighty who created it all I see in the heavens, cared so much that he personally came to the manger in Bethlehem that night so long ago, in the form of a newborn baby.<\/span><\/p>\n
