unpredictable<\/p>\n

moves slowly on the darkened stage<\/p>\n

in the slant of light<\/p>\n

from left to right<\/p>\n

his bare feet reaching<\/p>\n

searching the uncharted<\/p>\n

borderlands<\/p>\n

of butoh conversation<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

his arms lift up at right angles<\/p>\n

shifting his graceful nude body<\/p>\n

his swift hands cut upward<\/p>\n

moving independently<\/p>\n

like a ghost<\/p>\n

this is the hell-raiser<\/p>\n

who has a reputation<\/p>\n

to live up to-<\/p>\n

this is the solo performer<\/p>\n

angry and mildly<\/p>\n

disturbing<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Did you come here<\/p>\n

to be shocked<\/p>\n

by the Glorious Future<\/p>\n

of modern<\/p>\n

Japanese<\/p>\n

Art?<\/p>\n

a comically overtoned<\/p>\n

glance?<\/p>\n

Butoh – a dance in depth<\/p>\n

Butoh – a dance of death.<\/p>\n

I would have seen Sankai Juku in the late 1980s in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for the first time.<\/p>\n
