Wild Geese in Winter<\/span><\/h4>\n

I glance out my window<\/p>\n

begin to write a poem<\/p>\n

consider my ordinary day<\/p>\n

wild geese in my fragment of world<\/p>\n

they travel across the mauve sky at twilight<\/p>\n

above distant treetops of scattered woods<\/p>\n

I stop whatever I am doing when I hear them coming<\/p>\n

want to lay face-down on the damp earth<\/p>\n

I whisper<\/p>\n

\u201cI am nothing.<\/p>\n

I am nothing, Lord.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The view from my window is a snow globe landscape.<\/p>\n

I am warm and snug inside my home<\/p>\n

wild geese fly over tree tops on wintry days<\/p>\n

a trajectory from north to south<\/p>\n

my husband sits in his reclining chair<\/p>\n

in the corner of his yellow reading room<\/p>\n

stacks of books surround him<\/p>\n

his dog, the queen of our home<\/p>\n

on her blue velvet throne<\/p>\n

stares out the window as snow covers the road<\/p>\n

I am upstairs in my library<\/p>\n

sorting through Czech fire-polished beads<\/p>\n

and black Tahitian pearls<\/p>\n

my cat sits on a shelf beside rows of poetry books<\/p>\n

watches over me<\/p>\n

as I work at my craft<\/p>\n

in front of the eastern window<\/p>\n

wild geese fly over the tree tops of my wintry days.<\/p>\n

I whisper<\/p>\n

\u201cI am nothing.<\/p>\n

I am nothing. Lord.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lynda McKinney Lambert writes and creates visual art from her vintage home in the Village of Wurtemburg, in Western Pennsylvania. She writes poetry and personal nonfiction essays. She currently has six published books available at all retail booksellers. Her artworks have appeared in international exhibitions, including Japan, New Guinea, Austria, and the United States.\u00a0 Lynda retired from her position as Professor of Fine Art and Humanities at Geneva College in 2008 due to profound sight loss. She invites readers to discover the subtle nuances\u00a0 and beauty of a physical and spiritual world as she weaves strands from history, nature, and her personal life experiences.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
