{"id":5244,"date":"2019-05-16T19:18:04","date_gmt":"2019-05-16T23:18:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lyndalambert.com\/?p=5244"},"modified":"2019-08-03T08:44:02","modified_gmt":"2019-08-03T12:44:02","slug":"great-grandmother","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lyndalambert.com\/wordpress\/great-grandmother\/","title":{"rendered":"Great-grandmother sings little songs &#8211; Poem"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>\u00a0Today, as I worked on some submissions of poetry for a literary magazine, <\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>I stopped for a time &#8211; <\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>to work on a &#8220;little poem.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This poem started out as a TANKA, but\u00a0 eventually \u00a0I wanted to do something different and turned it into a Modern Lyrical Poem.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve never known any of my Great-grandmothers. They all died very young.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, I\u00a0 only knew 1 maternal grand mother for a little while in my life.<\/p>\n<p>I imagine what a Great-grandmother \u00a0might have been like. I think of her a lot. It seems like I feel all of my grandmothers \u00a0when I am outside walking in the woods or along the creek bank, or standing in the meadow staring down at the rippling water. \u00a0Even late at night, when I stand in silence to feel the sky. My whole body can feel them walking with me.<\/p>\n<h2><em><strong>How about you?<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n<h3>Did you know your Great-grandmother?<\/h3>\n<p>If you wrote a poem about her, what would she be doing and where would you see it?<\/p>\n<p>Mine sings and she loves to walk in the woods along the creek.\u00a0 She catches fish for her husband and children to eat;<\/p>\n<p>and takes her grand-children swimming at night in the creek, when the moon is full.<\/p>\n<p>She is one with Nature and she holds the memories of a thousand summers \u00a0in her body.<\/p>\n<p>In my imagination.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Here it is. It is the perfect theme for May, isn&#8217;t it!<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;great-grandmother sings little songs&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>great-grandmother sings little songs<\/p>\n<p>moves beneath\u00a0 wet hemlock boughs<\/p>\n<p>on the ridge overlooking a rushing creek<\/p>\n<p>her feet slide over damp spring leaves<\/p>\n<p>she feels the summer breeze<\/p>\n<p>on the slippery \u00a0pathway through the woods<\/p>\n<p>she knows every\u00a0 leaf, bark and branch<\/p>\n<p>by name<\/p>\n<p>glances into the curly willow tree<\/p>\n<p>responds to screaming crows<\/p>\n<p>gathered for lunch<\/p>\n<p>she looks at me and whispers<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We may catch some fish this afternoon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>tonight we will<\/p>\n<p>bathe in light of full Strawberry Moon.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2019.
