<\/h1>\n\u00a0Day 30 of National Poetry Month<\/em><\/h1>\n\u00a0<\/em><\/h1>\nEnjoy this wintry-themed \u00a0poem.<\/em><\/h1>\nIt’s one of my personal favorites.<\/em><\/h1>\n <\/p>\n
\u00a0 <\/em><\/h1>\n <\/p>\n
\u201cWeather Observations\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
6:30 AM, overcast and chilly<\/em><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\nYou appear at my doorway<\/p>\n
an Aloe Vera plant slumped in your left hand<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat should we do with this?\u201d you ask.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Clouds drift around your head.<\/p>\n
\u201cDo we have a name for this one?<\/p>\n
It fell out of the nest this morning.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Winds are 14 miles per hour<\/em><\/p>\nVisibility is 7 miles<\/em><\/p>\nYour fingers clutch fragile memories<\/p>\n
floating around the dangling roots<\/p>\n
Medicinal plants are not always accurate.<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Rain or snow determines your travels<\/p>\n
A simple procedure- one hour, or so.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Partially sunny and chilly.<\/em><\/p>\nVisibility 10 miles.<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
One by one, the surgical team<\/p>\n
visits our Aloe vera plant.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cjust a little blood\u201d – the nurse says<\/p>\n
\u201cThat will have to do,\u201d you say.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Observations are higher or lower<\/p>\n
than what is listed in a short-range forecast.<\/p>\n
I say, \u201cThe moon is in the last quarter.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
You thump my hands, one after the other \u2013<\/p>\n
and once again.<\/p>\n
You warn me, \u201cthis will pinch a lot.<\/p>\n
The Moon is in Libra today\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019t move,\u201d you say.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The surgeon says,<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen the moon is ready, we will go.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are ready anyway, you say.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The time is now – the sky is exposed.<\/p>\n
Current positions of the planets<\/p>\n
The musicians<\/p>\n
are ready to roll into the concert hall.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Noon: 30 degrees F.<\/em><\/p>\nPartially sunny and chilly<\/em><\/p>\n\u201cYou can hear the aloe plant<\/p>\n
breathing across the entire room.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
