noisy red-winged blackbird<\/p>\n
avian show-off – pay attention!<\/p>\n
can\u2019t miss his flamboyant solos<\/p>\n
performing on stage<\/p>\n
atop swaying coattails in swamp<\/p>\n
lined-up on grey telephone wires<\/p>\n
along dusty rural roadsides<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
abundant red-winged songbird<\/p>\n
bold yellow and red feathers<\/p>\n
boastful emblems on his shoulders<\/p>\n
coat-of-arms brooches on wings<\/p>\n
glistening black spinel majestic bird<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
his mate is more conservative<\/p>\n
a shy woman in streaked brown feathers<\/p>\n
does not dress to impress<\/p>\n
doesn\u2019t care for grand-standing or glitz<\/p>\n
he seeks to entertain the crowd<\/p>\n
she calmly searches hidden brush<\/p>\n
selects twigs for warp and weft<\/p>\n
unobtrusively weaves her fancy nest.<\/p>\n
confident artist welcomes domestic solitude<\/p>\n
conjures daydreams of spring.<\/p>\n
their eggs will hatch in three weeks.<\/p>\n
