This pivot changes the direction.<\/p>\n<p>*And, finally, the poem is not read as a sentence.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>BASIC Directions for creating a TANKA poem.<br \/>\nA  tanka has 5 LINES.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Line 1 &#8211; 5 syllables (introduce an image or idea)<br \/>\nLine 2 &#8211; 7 syllables (expand on that image or idea)<br \/>\nLine 3 &#8211; 5 syllables&nbsp; (The THIRD LINE &nbsp;is a PIVOT line.
