My father was drafted into the U.S. Army and he was away for 2 years after my birth. He was with Patton&#8217;s troops,\u00a0 in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>In my little village in western PA, there were nightly air raid practices; blackouts; and I can still feel the fear.<\/p>\n<p>I was not yet\u00a0 2 years old, because my father returned after I turned 2.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I was around fifty-five\u00a0 years old when I verbalized the memory for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>I told my mother about the details\u00a0 and fragments of this memory.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>My Mother&#8217;s\u00a0 response:<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>I can&#8217;t believe\u00a0 you can remember that!<\/h2>\n<h2>You were only a small baby.<\/h2>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>I had questions about my earliest memory; she filled in the blanks.<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I have shared this early memory\u00a0 a few times but it is so personal that I am careful who I would share it with.
