I’m Lookin’ for a Burning Bush<\/h1>\n

Sitting in my office taking care of business:<\/p>\n

The Village of Wurtemburg, Pennsylvania,<\/p>\n

My two gray cats\u00a0 watch birds from \u00a0the open window.<\/p>\n

My dogs and I were out the door before dawn.<\/p>\n

\u00a0They sniff the trails through the woods,<\/p>\n

\u00a0track the deer while \u00a0I look for \u00a0 fragile phlox<\/p>\n

swaying in the morning breeze.<\/p>\n

My husband is making hot oatmeal in the kitchen and he stops<\/p>\n

to comment on the songs he hears on the radio \u2013 “I cannot understand the words, ” he says.<\/p>\n

But, I know the truth; \u00a0he\u2019s hard of hearing.<\/p>\n

My Episcopal friend, Ann, \u00a0sent me a copy of her Easter sermon<\/p>\n

a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n

She is preaching about Moses and is encounter with the burning bush.<\/p>\n

Since then, I keep wondering what sort of bush it was before the Lord entered into it .<\/p>\n

Perhaps it was a Privet bush like the ones see in the woods.<\/p>\n

Or maybe even a Red Barberry Bush with red berries still hanging on it<\/p>\n

.after a long winter, but hat made it worthy of Divine \u00a0habitation?<\/p>\n

Why did she tell me that she thinks I am a burning bush, too?<\/p>\n

So now, I worry that \u00a0God just might decide to jump inside of me some day<\/p>\n

when I am out there walking my dogs or when I\u00a0 stop to touch the purple \u00a0phlox?<\/p>\n

Or, is he already there, inside of my body, and then I wonder if that is the case, is my face glowing like Moses\u2019 was<\/p>\n

and if it is, can anyone see me glowing?<\/p>\n

I had a call from the editor of the university alumni magazine and<\/p>\n

she \u00a0needs a clear photo of my book\u2019s cover.<\/p>\n

Yes, I will send it right away, I said. I\u2019ll do it immediately, after I finish writing this poem.<\/p>\n

An E-mail\u00a0 arrived from Denver, Colorado, I agreed to give them a series of workshops,<\/p>\n

and she needs to know where to send my check.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWe enter the story with its only human character, Moses.\u00a0 <\/em><\/h4>\n

Think where he is.\u00a0 Geographically, he is out beyond the wilderness.\u00a0 That’s far out!\u00a0 <\/em><\/h4>\n

And that’s where he is personally.\u201d (Ann Paton)<\/em><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n

After lunch,<\/p>\n

I am going to take off my sandals, just like Moses.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m going to take them off and stand on holy ground.<\/p>\n
