\"\"<\/a>\u00a0I write this post \u00a0today\u00a0to celebrate\u00a0\u00a0an adventure from forty-four years ago.<\/p>\n

On December 28, 1972 I had my first ever airplane ride. I traveled from Pittsburgh, PA to Los Angeles, California.\u00a0 On this special day, I was going to greet our new son who was to arrive from Vietnam. He was less than 2 years old.<\/p>\n

Recently I thought about this very big event in the lives of our family.<\/p>\n

I wrote a poem about the announcement we made at that time.<\/p>\n

After my return home with our new son, I created a little card that announced the arrival of Robert Andrew Lambert into our family and our hearts.<\/p>\n

We called him The VIP.<\/p>\n

The Arrival of the VIP<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We are pleased to announce<\/p>\n

the arrival of a VIP. He came<\/p>\n

from one side of the world<\/p>\n

across the ocean to this new place.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Christmas was late<\/p>\n

the VIP was expected<\/p>\n

on December 28th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

in time for the New Year<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The VIP\u2019s flight ended in LA<\/p>\n

where I spotted him in the plane<\/p>\n

accompanied by a laughing woman<\/p>\n

they were singing songs.<\/p>\n

We left the plane together<\/p>\n

the VIP, handsome lady and me<\/p>\n

safely settled the small babies<\/p>\n

onto the soft couch.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The VIP began to tremble<\/p>\n

opened his mouth wide<\/p>\n

screamed out his despair<\/p>\n

and searched for a safe place to hide.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I offered him wrapped gifts from my bag<\/p>\n

colorful toys and some soft drinks<\/p>\n

but nothing eased his pain & fears<\/p>\n

we waited for the next plane to Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A slim young woman with long, dark<\/p>\n

hair \u2013 it must have looked so strange<\/p>\n

when I carried my heavy bag with one hand<\/p>\n

and hoisted the wary VIP to my chest.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Our flight left right on time<\/p>\n

I balanced him on my knees<\/p>\n

wrapped a blanket around him<\/p>\n

murmured quiet songs till he fell asleep.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Two grandparents, one father, three<\/p>\n

sisters \u2013 all waited to meet the VIP<\/p>\n

we arrived in the late afternoon<\/p>\n

three days after Christmas.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The little girls giggled – danced in circles<\/p>\n

enticed the VIP to join in the fun<\/p>\n

brought him splendid candy and gifts<\/p>\n

Santa left them under their tree.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We mailed out announcements<\/p>\n

each one to a special friend<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease join us in celebrating<\/p>\n

the arrival of our VIP.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Our new son has arrived from<\/p>\n

Vietnam just before the new year,<\/p>\n

1973, with lots of love and happy times<\/p>\n

we dried his tears and made him laugh.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Welcome to the home in our hearts<\/p>\n

A Very Important Person, our VIP<\/p>\n

Robert Andrew Lambert, you are<\/p>\n

the best Christmas gift\u00a0ever.<\/p>\n
