Tomorrow we say good-bye to August, and we turn our thoughts to welcome in the month of September on Wednesday.\u00a0 This is the best time for me to draft a little ROUND_UP article and give thanks for all of the blessings I enjoyed in August.\u00a0 I\u2019ll mention just a few in this article today.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last week, I celebrated my 83 birthday with a little group of family members.\u00a0 We ate lunch together at a local \u00a0Italian restaurant. My sister and her husband cam to celebrate with me as they have done for many years.\u00a0 They drive from the area near Akron, Ohio to my home in Western PA.\u00a0 One of my daughters came from Indiana, PA, and another sister-in-law joined us as she is a local resident in a nearby town. <\/strong><\/p>\n

After lunch, we stopped for a little while to have some photos taken of the five of us together.\u00a0 We do this every year. \u00a0We posed \u00a0with a wooden bench outside \u00a0the restaurant just like we always do.\u00a0 We laugh a lot as we take turns sitting down for the pictures. <\/strong><\/p>\n

__Writing Roundup_<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Did you know:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am the author of six published books.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year, I\u2019ve been diligently working on book #7.\u00a0 When completed, it will be a collection of poetry that spans my entire career in writing poems.\u00a0 This new book will be poems \u00a0from my first publications in the 80s to the present year. \u00a0\u00a0I can say that this has been the most ambitious\u00a0 writing project of my life as a published author.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

I write nonfiction essays, memoir, and poetry.<\/p>\n

My favorite books are poetry chapbooks and full-length books of poetry.<\/p>\n

As we move through the academic world of earning our degrees, \u00a0we zero in on what is truly most important to us.\u00a0 For me it is making art and writing and reading poems.\u00a0 We might begin with a broad education covering many different\u00a0 options.\u00a0 But as the years pass and we get to the place where we will work for our terminal degree, we have focused in and become deeply interested in just one or two genre.\u00a0 We joke and say, \u201cThe higher we climb on the academic ladder, the deeper we dive.\u201d\u00a0 It is so true. We are on a narrow path, that is very deep.<\/p>\n

My teaching career was across disciplines \u2013 English and Fine Art.\u00a0 And, after the decades of reading, writing, and making art, I have so much to be thankful for right now.\u00a0 At age 83, I am just as enthusiastic about\u00a0 art and writing as I was long ago.\u00a0 I am delighted with the poems I\u2019ve been writing for this book, and for the poems that I have gathered up from my years of writing. I see my 7th<\/sup> book as a hand-woven honeysuckle basket filled with precious stones and stars.<\/p>\n

__Seven is the number of COMPLETION<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Book #7 is on my mind these days.\u00a0 And I had the thought that this book will be a completion and celebration of many decades of my writing life.<\/strong><\/p>\n
