_My Thoughts<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Stars.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

Do you remember the first time you were aware of stars in the sky? My earliest memory of looking into the night sky, was when I was a small child.\u00a0 I stood beside my Dad, as we gazed up into the night sky.\u00a0 We were standing in the back yard of our home on Harmony-Fisher Avenue, in Frisco, a little village in western Pennsylvania.\u00a0 I lived there from the age of 3 until I was fifteen.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

During the summer of my fifteenth year, my parents moved our family into the new house they built in Churchill Plan. <\/strong><\/p>\n

So I imagine there were many such nights over those years when I would have been fascinated by the night showers of stars while with my parents or siblings.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the early 1980s I have one prominent memory of stars.\u00a0 I was a student at the Hoyt Institute of Fine Art, in New Castle, PA.\u00a0 The painting instructor was the executive director there.\u00a0 One Sunday afternoon, I came back to the Hoyt for the opening reception of the Regional Juried Art Show.\u00a0 The Director, David, met me at the door and took me by the arm.\u00a0 He said, “Close your eyes,” I have a surprise for you.”\u00a0 When we came\u00a0 into the gallery, he stopped in front of my painting and said, “OK, open your eyes!”\u00a0 My painting had a purple ribbon beside it – and that meant, I won Best of Show.\u00a0 It was my first time to win this prestigeous award, but it marked the beginning of a very long and joyous career.\u00a0 He told me, “You are a STAR.”\u00a0 I smiled, and I remembered that I was wearing an aqua-colored\u00a0 star barrette in my long auburn hair that day.\u00a0 I believed him, and I know this was just the beginning of a career in painting.<\/p>\n

Stars have been a present image in my life.\u00a0 As an artist and author, I have stars in my artworks, and stars in my poetry.<\/p>\n
