Every Day is a Holiday<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

every day is a holiday<\/p>\n

I’m on vacation at home<\/p>\n

look around – you will see me<\/p>\n

painting postcards in my studio<\/p>\n

splashing yellow-green brush strokes<\/p>\n

pictures made with prayers of gratitude<\/p>\n

my imagination in flight<\/p>\n

living verticality every day<\/p>\n

today is the best day<\/p>\n

sans clock, sans phone, sans timeline<\/p>\n

My Inspiration for this poem<\/h4>\n

During my years of\u00a0 teaching at Geneva College,<\/p>\n

I had the joy of taking students to a number of European countries every summer.<\/p>\n

There,\u00a0 I heard the words, “We are on holiday.”<\/p>\n

I loved their idea of a holiday, where they went to quiet places and rested and enjoyed the mountains or the rivers, and all of nature.\u00a0 \u00a0It is quite the opposite of what we Americans do when we are on vacation.\u00a0 I like the European concept of a holiday much better than the sizzling hustle\u00a0 and\u00a0 frantic bustle of a vacation on crowded and noisy beaches, and hopping from one place to another to see\u00a0 how many things we can see and do in a day.\u00a0 We do the opposite of what the Europeans do, and we pay a price for our lack of respect for our bodies that need rest\u00a0 and a concentration of wellness instead of\u00a0 business.\u00a0 My poem indicates how I feel about the idea of being on a holiday.<\/p>\n
