My literary journey began <\/em><\/h4>\n

with my <\/em>first published story in 1980.<\/em><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n

From my first published \u00a0essay \u00a0in 1980, I\u2019ve always\u00a0 had work published nationally, and internationally.<\/p>\n

This is probably because I started painting in 1976, with a teacher who taught me from the first stroke on the canvas, that I was painting\u00a0\u00a0 for an audience.<\/p>\n

She told me the steps to take, and that my first painting would be going to an art exhibition\u00a0 at a university gallery.\u00a0\u00a0 Since, I knew nothing about \u00a0art exhibitions, I just believed her and soon, I was delivering my paintings to art galleries, museums.\u00a0 \u00a0Art and \u00a0writing\u00a0 need an audience and a place where the audience can view it.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I was thinking I could provide some \u00a0basic \u00a0advice for submitting your poems, that can apply to most of the publishers you will be encountering once you start getting your poems out this way.<\/p>\n

As a visual artist, we know that our artwork is made for a viewing audience.\u00a0 We don\u2019t make it and then stick it in a closet or slide it under the bed. It is made to be viewed by others.\u00a0 This is the same for writing.<\/p>\n

Our work is made to be read by others.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A \u00a0creative work has three parts:<\/p>\n

The Writer\/artist \u2013 the work created \u2013 and the viewer\/reader.<\/p>\n

Without this final part, the work is not complete.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Don\u2019t be hesitant to get your writing out to publishers.\u00a0 You need them and they need you.<\/p>\n

Without you they would have no material to publish.\u00a0 You are important\u00a0 and your work is, too.<\/p>\n

This just might be your time to shine!\u00a0 Give it a try.<\/p>\n

This is an international book of poetry from poets from around the world who write in ENGLISH, or have their poems translated into English.<\/em><\/p>\n

Each year there is a new panel of jurors for selecting work to include, or to award cash prizes.\u00a0 There is a $14.. \u00a0submission fee for each poem entered<\/em><\/p>\n

6 Steps to plan ahead.<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Be prepared in advance.<\/em><\/h4>\n

My 6 steps will save you time and effort.<\/em><\/h4>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

1_Have a short bio, less than 200 words,\u00a0 ready to add to the submission form.<\/em><\/p>\n

2_ Have your poem saved to a file and ready to drop into the box on the form.\u00a0 Name of Poem on the file.<\/em><\/p>\n

3_Create a statement about that poem,\u00a0 to give readers additional insight into the poem.\u00a0 Give the \u00a0backstory.\u00a0 Write \u00a0some \u00a0details that will help readers\u00a0 who do not speak English as a first language.<\/em><\/p>\n

4_There are a few boxes to check on the entry form, so be careful to answer them all, as appropriate.<\/em><\/p>\n

5_When everything is completed, you will be asked to put this on a charge card.\u00a0 Have your card numbers ready in advance\u00a0 so you can complete the application.<\/em><\/p>\n

6_When you have completed the application and sent it to Submittable, you will get a receipt from Submittable for your records. Save them for your income tax report.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
