{"id":17278,"date":"2025-06-04T10:17:03","date_gmt":"2025-06-04T14:17:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lyndalambert.com\/wordpress\/?p=17278"},"modified":"2025-09-14T14:17:33","modified_gmt":"2025-09-14T18:17:33","slug":"from-lyndas-journal_the-potting-shed_poem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lyndalambert.com\/wordpress\/from-lyndas-journal_the-potting-shed_poem\/","title":{"rendered":"Lynda&#8217;s Journal  &#8211;  The Potting Shed &#8211; A new Poem,  2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"font-inherit\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Lynda\u2019s Journal<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h4 class=\"font-inherit\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>The potting shed &#8211; <\/strong><\/em>Poem<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4 class=\"font-inherit\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Note: Today, I am sharing a poem I wrote on Easter Sunday, 2025.<\/h4>\n<h4>Below:\u00a0 Please find the information on a forthcoming anthology in which one of my nature-themed stories will appear.<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Easter Sunday &#8211; 2025<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The Potting Shed<\/em><\/p>\n<p>cold fingers jiggle the latch<\/p>\n<p>snap open the wooden door<\/p>\n<p>dusty, somber\u00a0 potting shed<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Wake up&#8221;\u00a0 I say, &#8220;Today is Resurrection Sunday!!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>crinkled mottled grey\u00a0 leaves grumblle<\/p>\n<p>as they scatter beneath my feet<\/p>\n<p>I reach for large white container<\/p>\n<p>put on Gardening gloves<\/p>\n<p>to protect my\u00a0 hands, crouch down<\/p>\n<p>begin to scoop out<\/p>\n<p>leaves hiding between\u00a0 wide<\/p>\n<p>open red and\u00a0 yellow tulips<\/p>\n<p>rip out weeds with intention<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Not today,&#8221; I say. , as I toss them<\/p>\n<p>into the vintage wheelbarrow.<\/p>\n<p>crows are watching from the pear tree<\/p>\n<p>sunflower seeds and dried corn<\/p>\n<p>in the round pan..<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">As published in<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>The Weekly Avocet,<\/em> Issue #645<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">April 12, 2025<\/h3>\n<p>__<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">My Reflection on this poem:<\/h3>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">In my poems I sing\u00a0 praises to God for the beauty of His spectacular\u00a0 creations in our\u00a0 natural world,<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I celebrate\u00a0 God\u2019s gifts as I encounter them in my walks in the woods, standing on a ridge overlooking the flowing creek below,\u00a0 gazing\u00a0 up into the magnificent sky,\u00a0 or the\u00a0 tiny center of a fragrant\u00a0 flower like\u00a0 the one I describe in this poem.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The vintage peony plants in my garden were planted on this property around 1929,\u00a0 when this home was built by John and Amanda Duncan.\u00a0 Amanda told me that she planted these flowers when the house was built and that was in 1929.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Each spring the plants begin to come up from the earth, and the flowers are probably as beautiful as they were when Amanda planted them nearly 100 years ago.\u00a0 God\u2019s world is amazing, isn\u2019t it!\u00a0 I stand in reverence\u00a0 as I contemplate God\u2019s gifts of abundance.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Thank you, Charles Portolano, Editor\/Publisher of The Avocet, and The Weekly Avocet, Journals of Nature Poetry. She writes poetry and personal nonfiction essays. She currently has six published books available at all retail booksellers. Her artworks have appeared in international exhibitions, including Japan, New Guinea, Austria, and the United States.\u00a0 Lynda retired from her position as Professor of Fine Art and Humanities at Geneva College in 2008 due to profound sight loss.
