~ P<\/strong>rimavera: When Spring Break is Over ~<\/em><\/h3>\n

The Poem:<\/h3>\n

Primavera: When Spring Break is Over, is a poem I wrote on one of my yearly\u00a0 visits to Puerto Rico.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Backstory:<\/h3>\n

I was a member of a team of professors who brought students from Geneva College, to Puerto Rico every March.\u00a0 This group trip was\u00a0 part of our 15-week course that focused on Puerto Rico culture and the arts.\u00a0\u00a0 This course was offered during the Spring Semester each year.\u00a0 As part of the course, students\u00a0 were immersed in the culture of Puerto Rico over spring break for 10 days of studies on location in various locations on\u00a0 the island.\u00a0 I taught the art component of the course each year.<\/p>\n

Primavera: When Spring Break is Over<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Caribbean mornings<\/p>\n

earthy paradise drinks<\/p>\n

dark island coffee with hot cream<\/p>\n

tiny homegrown yellow pl\u00e1tanos<\/p>\n

early sunrise breeze with honey rolls<\/p>\n

rental cars spiral up the mountain<\/p>\n

we view abandoned plantations<\/p>\n

hacienda tourists in a group<\/p>\n

I wear my new green hat for the photo<\/p>\n

afternoon rum factory tours by boat<\/p>\n

sandy beaches never closed<\/p>\n

coconut drinks every day<\/p>\n

coral reefs and rusty piers<\/p>\n

sun burned skin<\/p>\n

soothed with aloe vera lotion<\/p>\n

we\u00a0hike steep mountain paths<\/p>\n

cross over bridges with wooden planks<\/p>\n

immerse our bodies in mountain streams<\/p>\n

scream with pleasures under torrid sun<\/p>\n

moan under a throbbing cold waterfall<\/p>\n

Caribbean nights under the stars<\/p>\n

dancing in the streets with strangers<\/p>\n

two mountain top dreamers in darkness<\/p>\n

Tony sings Puerto Rican songs to me<\/p>\n

whispers phrases n my ear<\/p>\n

(always in Spanish.)<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If a volcano erupts<\/p>\n

there may be delays<\/p>\n

flights are never on time<\/p>\n

things are often unpredictable<\/p>\n

when spring break is over.<\/p>\n

Lynda McKinney Lambert writes and creates visual art from her vintage home in the Village of Wurtemburg, in Western Pennsylvania. She writes poetry and personal nonfiction essays. She currently has six published books available at all retail booksellers. Her artworks have appeared in international exhibitions, including Japan, New Guinea, Austria, and the United States.\u00a0 Lynda retired from her position as Professor of Fine Art and Humanities at Geneva College in 2008 due to profound sight loss. She invites readers to discover the subtle nuances\u00a0 and beauty of a physical and spiritual world as she weaves strands from history, nature, and her personal life experiences.<\/p>\n

Bio: Lynda McKinney Lambert is a retired college professor of fine art and<\/p>\n

humanities. She writes and creates art at her River Road Studio,<\/p>\n

established in 1976. She explores themes of landscape, pilgrimage, passage<\/p>\n

of time, fine arts and poetry. She loves walking through a meadow of wild<\/p>\n

flowers; pale heliotrope skies in the evening; solitary days with her 7<\/p>\n

cats and 1 dog; and eggplant parmesan. She has six books published and are<\/p>\n

available on Amazon.<\/p>\n
