\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A tanka poem has 5 lines.<\/p>\n

The syllable count for each line is 5, 7, 5, 7, 7<\/p>\n

Try one!\u00a0 They are fun to write.<\/p>\n

No title at the top of the poem.<\/p>\n

No capitalization at beginning of lines.<\/p>\n

Select a theme from nature, without a mention of the season.<\/p>\n

Third line is a PIVOT line – the poem shifts at this point.<\/p>\n

Do not write a sentence – each line is significant it it[s own without trying to write a sentence.<\/p>\n

Avoid little\u00a0 words that take up space – every word should COUNT.<\/p>\n
