The Backstory<\/strong><\/em><\/h1>\nFirst, I want to thank you for taking this moment to read a poem from The Professor’s Journal. I love sharing the poems and letting you know HOW\u00a0 that poem was birthed and where it was published. It is a joy to share my work with YOU!<\/p>\n
Today’s poem is falling temperatures.<\/em><\/p>\nI am pleased to say it was just published in a new issue of The Weekly Avocet. You can read my work there very often. This weekly poetry magazine features the work of poets who focus on nature, from around the world.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\nI created this haiku poem\u00a0 from my personal\u00a0 perspective of winter time in Western Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n
I have lived my entire life in this area that is north of Pittsburgh, PA, in the foothills of the Allegheny mountains.<\/p>\n
When I create a poem,\u00a0 I pay attention to every detail pf my senses. I stop and wait a while as I try to listen for the layers of founds around me. Sound comes in many layers because of the distance involved in a variety of sonic noises at different distances from where I stand at that moment.<\/p>\n
I literally see with my entire body and that includes my gut feelings and my intuition as well as the physical aspects and prior knowledge of the place and surroundings.<\/p>\n
I encounter sights, smells and touch of everything around me. My poems are most often said to be\u00a0 sensual, and that is exactly what I want to capture.<\/p>\n
When I come back to the office I sit down at my computer and compose those experiences into words on a page. The picture I create in the poem is a reflection of my experience outside.<\/p>\n
My focus on nature works well when I write in haiku or tanka forms. Nature is traditionally the inspiration and focus\u00a0 for both poetic forms.<\/p>\n
