The Poem:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Inspiration arrived early this morning<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Inspiration arrived early this morning<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I pressed<\/p>\n

my feet deeper into plush blue blankets<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I stretched<\/p>\n

my legs \u00a0and flexed my heels<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I looked<\/p>\n

slowly at the numbers on the bedside clock<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I remembered<\/p>\n

it\u2019s the first morning of Autumn!<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I knew<\/p>\n

the rising sun can\u2019t be seen through a window that faces west<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I listened<\/p>\n

to morning bird songs drifting into the room<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I thought<\/p>\n

about giving a gift to my lover this morning<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I decided<\/p>\n

it must be a divine offering fit for the gods<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I remembered<\/p>\n

a shiny silver box in the next room<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I rose<\/p>\n

to get the magical surprise that I would bring to him this morning<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I brought<\/p>\n

the shimmering gift – that was pure inspiration\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I lifted<\/p>\n

his warm arm and pushed the cool, slender metallic box under it<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He reached<\/p>\n

to grab the silver box of Cracker Jacks tucked under his arm.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Backstory:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

I wrote this poem on a winter morning in 2004.<\/p>\n

My focus is the use of verbs to describe the actions as I take you on a little jaunt through the poem.<\/p>\n

What was I thinking?<\/p>\n

What did I see?<\/p>\n

Did I hear anything?<\/p>\n

How did I feel that morning?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I hope you can tell that my husband and I had a playful relationship when we were at home.<\/p>\n

Sometimes, our relationship turns into a poem or story.<\/p>\n
