I always remember the special nuances of a place I have visited when I listen to the music that is created by the local musicians and composers.\u00a0 I always shop for CDs of that particular music and bring it home so I can enjoy it.\u00a0 When I listen my memories come alive and I remember specific little activities or places of that place.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

One of my favorite places to visit is Venice, Italy. Every summer I visited Venice during the Redintore Festival in July. As soon as I arrived at my hotel, I purchased tickets to a Vivaldi concert.\u00a0 Of course, I bought the CDs of those concert performances and listen to them often throughout the year.<\/p>\n

Vivaldi, the Four Seasons<\/a><\/p>\n

Another activity I did in Venice was to walk through the city, then select a place where I could sit down and write in my journal.\u00a0 Some times, I opened up my sketch book and did drawing of the people, buildings, boats, and I wrote notes in the sketchbook, too.<\/p>\n

Later, when you are back home, you will love looking through your sketchbooks and reading your notes once again. \u00a0\u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

I use my notes and sketches to bring back the details of a special day. I turn them into a poem.<\/p>\n

Here is a poem I wrote from such an experience, very early one morning as I sat beside the Grand Canal enjoying the beauty of the new day.<\/p>\n

**<\/p>\n

Venezia, 7 a.m.<\/p>\n

I hear deep bell sounds<\/p>\n

From the Renaissance tower<\/p>\n

morning announcements<\/p>\n

Arrive in waves<\/p>\n

embrace me low<\/p>\n

surround me deep.<\/p>\n

A duet begins<\/p>\n

To shape this early light<\/p>\n

mingled with lapping<\/p>\n

pushing<\/p>\n

surging<\/p>\n

waves in the lagoon.<\/p>\n

Polished black boats are tied<\/p>\n

to terra cotta stone piers<\/p>\n

covered by slippery gray mists.<\/p>\n

An undulating shrill voice<\/p>\n

somewhere<\/p>\n

out of view<\/p>\n

soars over<\/p>\n

aqua cleansing waters.<\/p>\n

Four Chinese women pause<\/p>\n

form a circle<\/p>\n

their heads lean back<\/p>\n

mouths open wide as they laugh<\/p>\n

at fat pigeons taking staccato strides.<\/p>\n

The thin man in green cotton pants nods<\/p>\n

as he sweeps away the debris<\/p>\n

from the all-night celebration<\/p>\n

his long flexible broom<\/p>\n

scrapes away trash and fireworks<\/p>\n

scattering them into the heavens.<\/p>\n

The scratching of his broom<\/p>\n

mingles with the chorus<\/p>\n

of bells, birds, water,<\/p>\n

women\u2019s chatter<\/p>\n

and the movement of my hand<\/p>\n

as I write in this journal.<\/p>\n

It is the morning after<\/p>\n

Redintore Festival<\/p>\n

once again<\/p>\n

the Redeemer\u2019s fireworks<\/p>\n

have saved us from the plague.<\/p>\n

It has now been 400 years<\/p>\n

the sparks have kept us safe.<\/p>\n
