Set a Goal – <\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

We Lay Down Our Themes<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

From the moment we set our goal, we lay down our themes. Our\u00a0destination was determined the moment we took that first step.<\/em><\/p>\n

Our\u00a0 first step of goal-setting is a small and thoughtful movement in a new direction, by faith.<\/em><\/p>\n

Our first step is an intention to walk with God on sacred pilgrimage. Just one new and different step takes us to a new destination to a place that God determined for us at the beginning.<\/span><\/p>\n

When we arrive at the destination, we can reflect on the journey. At that moment, we see how we were led by God to the place where we stand surveying our landscape.<\/span><\/p>\n

When I decided in late 2009 to create a blog to celebrate a two-year journey of learning to live life in new ways after sight loss. I could not have known that this decision to write articles on my blog would eventually lead me to the publication of Walking by Inner Vision: Stories & Poems in 2017. My book was published eight years after I started writing the blog. I wrote my faith because I believed my personal life stories and poems would be necessary to others.<\/span><\/p>\n

I developed the book over those eight years without thought that it would eventually be a collection and published in a book. Instead, I kept writing about the things in my heart because I wanted to share my faith walk with others.<\/span><\/p>\n

One final thought I have today is that when I laid down my themes, story by story and poem by poem, I was creating my own future.<\/span><\/p>\n

Every theme I wrote about came from my lifetime of activities, desires, dreams, and intentions. As we continue on this pilgrimage together, I’ll discuss the themes and explore how that focus was a thread in my life that has been woven intricately\u00a0 over the years. These new discoveries are like blooming flowers in my garden of life.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

In future articles, I’ll discuss the theme and how it was woven through the years.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I am talking about the kind of goal you cannot achieve without supernatural and divine guidance from God. The goal is given to you as you seek to learn more about the pilgrimage you are currently taking.\u00a0 What will be revealed in your future? It’s a journey of faith.

Let me share a thought from Zig Ziglar that puts goal-setting into perspective for us. In his book, Born to Win<\/em><\/strong>, (p.38) he writes Six Reasons to Set Goals.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

#1.\u00a0 Goals bring the future into the present, the present is the only time we can take action. Setting goals makes it possible to do something today to create the future you want.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

My friend, what is it that you are seeking?<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The answer is already stirring inside you as you read this question. Pay attention to what your spirit is speaking to you right now. You already know what you need\u00a0 and most likely you have never shared that with anyone, yet. Maybe now is the time for YOU to begin your own faith Pilgrimage.<\/p>\n

This week-<\/strong> <\/em><\/h2>\n

As I was preparing to give a presentation to a group of people who have vision challenges,\u00a0 I thought about how I was inspired to write my first book,\u00a0 Concerti: Psalms for the Pilgrimage. <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

I was teaching at Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. During the first five years of teaching in a tenure track position, there are check points and well defined responsibilities that must be met to continue on in the program.\u00a0 Finally, after reaching most of the benchmarks, you arrive at the point of presenting\u00a0 your\u00a0 tenure project.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Concerti: Psalms for the Pilgrimage<\/em><\/strong> (Kota Press, 2001) was my first published book.\u00a0 It was also part of my tenure project for promotion. The book is now out of print.<\/p>\n

My latest book – Songs for the Pilgrimage – is a greatly expanded and revised version of that first book.\u00a0 It is now over twice the size of the first book and covers a time period from 1095 to 2021.<\/p>\n

This is a perfect example of how we set a goal, yet, that goal will take us to places we never even considered at the time.<\/p>\n
