{"id":12059,"date":"2022-08-15T08:33:54","date_gmt":"2022-08-15T12:33:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lyndalambert.com\/wordpress\/?p=12059"},"modified":"2022-08-15T08:33:54","modified_gmt":"2022-08-15T12:33:54","slug":"my-3-top-pet-peeves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lyndalambert.com\/wordpress\/my-3-top-pet-peeves\/","title":{"rendered":"My 3 Pet Peeves"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>My 3 Pet Peeves.<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>First, let me ask a question.<\/p>\n<p>Do you cringe every time you see a period on the outside of a quotation mark?\u00a0 I do!<\/p>\n<p>This error is a glaring grammatical mistake that makes the reader feel like screaming, &#8220;STOP!&#8221; Nevertheless, this standard error is a red flag that indicates a bumpy road ahead.<\/p>\n<p>However, there are two exceptions to this rule.<br \/>\nFind out what they are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grammar.com\/periods-with-quotation-marks\/#:~:text=Periods%20Come%20Inside%20With%20only%20one%20exception%2C%20the,if%20only%20one%20quoted%20word%20ends%20the%20sentence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Second, why is it so difficult to understand the difference between farther and further? Talking heads on television often get it wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Third, the dangling preposition at the final word in a sentence is a choice the author has to make. To dangle, or not to dangle?<\/p>\n<p>Here is an informative article by one of the editors for MLA.<br \/>\nRead it <a href=\"https:\/\/style.mla.org\/preposition-at-end-of-sentence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Students in the humanities are required to use the MLA style.
