Good Morning, Carrie,<\/span><\/p>\n

I am delighted to see your poems in today\u2019s issue of <\/span>The Weekly Avocet.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As a lover and owner of six cats, all with feral origins and rescued, I was interested in your poem\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The Cleverness of Our Cats
\n<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

I smiled as I read that your cats sleep in the sink to keep cool. Mine do, too! They also love to jump into our vintage claw-footed cast iron bathtub in the upstairs bathroom. (I wrote about this tub and its history in my blog post yesterday. Here is the link to what happened one day recently, as I was taking an afternoon bath in that tub. <\/span><\/p>\n

I thought about my story when you wrote that cats have more common sense than humans. I think you will enjoy the story. Read it here.<\/a>

I also liked reading your poem,<\/span><\/p>\n

A Summer Night Storm<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

This poem opens like a stage curtain, with the sound of the \u201cdistant thunder.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

You present the various sounds and movements we can experience when we are in a grand music hall audience listening to a symphony. After reading this poem, I will always think about listening in a new way. You have given me unique insight into a night-time storm that is memorable. I loved the way you described the musicians as they exited the<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201ccelestial stage.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0I love the opening image in your first line!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn my freshwater days…\u201d You had me hooked into the poem with that first line.<\/span><\/p>\n

As I read your poem,\u00a0<\/span>A Pond\u2019s Pondering,\u00a0<\/span><\/em>I remembered a rural pond from my childhood in western Pennsylvania. This pond of my memories eventually was forgotten after the farm no longer existed. When I drove past the area where I knew the pond must still be somewhere in the wildness of the overgrown landscape, I thought of the pond for decades and wondered if it was still there.<\/span><\/p>\n

Recently, I discovered that the pond that had been hidden away for decades in the dense weeds was revitalized and looks so beautiful and peaceful now. Your poem\u2019s pond left such a sadness in my thoughts, but I hope someday that poetic pond can be restored and beautiful again.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
