I am immersed in a river that<\/p>\n

flows in every season.<\/p>\n

I rest in the shade of<\/p>\n

Hemlocks and ferns,<\/p>\n

gather water-worn stones from<\/p>\n

the whirling floor of a cool eddy.<\/p>\n

In my red canoe I skim the surface of<\/p>\n

the emerald-green mountain river<\/p>\n

while russet and gold autumn trees<\/p>\n

prepare for winter\u2019s respite.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Backstory:<\/span><\/h3>\n

I wrote this poem from memories of floating on the Allegheny River on warm afternoons in the mountains of Western Pennsylvania. My husband (Bob) and I had a red canoe.\u00a0 We would stop to gather small, smooth river stones from quiet eddys some days. I have always lived near a creek. The sound of water flowing in all seasons is music that surrounds me. This internalization of the rushing water is a life-long experience because this music is playing inside of me. I am complete when I am aware of its presence.<\/p>\n
