I have been wanting to tell you<\/p>\n

thinking of you daily is easy<\/p>\n

some time ago, I placed<\/p>\n

the lovely shawl which you<\/p>\n

knitted for me<\/p>\n

on the back of my computer chair.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On some cold nights,<\/p>\n

I have\u00a0 put the shawl around me<\/p>\n

as I typed on my computer.<\/p>\n

Most often, I just enjoy having it<\/p>\n

draped over the back of the computer chair<\/p>\n

to dress it up a little<\/p>\n

to remind me<\/p>\n

my writer friend Lynda is with me in<\/p>\n

inspiration.<\/p>\n

Backstory:<\/span><\/h3>\n

This poem is a “found poem” and it was created from an e-mail message I received from a friend.<\/p>\n

The concept of\u00a0found\u00a0<\/b>poetry is closely connected to the revision of the concept of authorship in the 20th century, (as John Hollander put it, “anyone may ‘find’ a text; the poet is he who names it, ‘Text ‘ “) and its first known use was in 1966.<\/div>\n

In a found poem, the poet uses a\u00a0 text that is non-poetic.\u00a0 The text is re-arranged into poetic lines, breaks, and spaces.<\/p>\n

I have been creating “found poems” from letters, e-mails, newspaper articles, advertisements and junk mail for my entire career. I began writing found poems in my freshman year as I was working for my BFA degree in the mid-to-late 1980s.<\/p>\n

As a high school student, I was influenced by the “Beat Poets.”<\/p>\n
