Viewing Red Falls<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n

thick red thread twists and turns,<\/p>\n

high voltage shocks of energy<\/p>\n

Splurge, plunge, splash, curl.<\/p>\n

\u201cBEWARE \u2013 SCARLET LINES TUMBLING DOWN!<\/p>\n

Criss-crossing, draping, leaping Red\u00a0 falls<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Oh! The color is magnificent!<\/p>\n

Gestures of emotion shattering space<\/p>\n

standing beside the red waterfall<\/p>\n

She holds the red ball of woven images<\/p>\n

displaced from towering shadows<\/p>\n

near the painted grey ceiling<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On rainy summer mornings<\/p>\n

she examines the contours of a life-journey<\/p>\n

capturing shards of fractured gravity<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You are an ancient scribe kneeling<\/p>\n

sifting and sorting rubicund threads<\/p>\n

harvesting life waiting beneath the surface.<\/p>\n

Backstory:<\/span><\/h3>\n

Akiko Kotani is a fiber artist who lives in Florida.\u00a0 She is a retired professor of fine art and I studied with her during my years at Slippery Rock University as I worked to earn my BFA Degree in painting. She mentored me and gave me a passion for fiber art. Recently, I saw photos of her latest work at an art gallery. This poem is the response I wrote while viewing a photo of her standing beside her powerful sculpture of fiber that has the feeling of a\u00a0 red waterfall plunging from the ceiling of the gallery.<\/p>\n

Art and artists are the focus and theme for\u00a0 my poetry and non-fiction essays. I honor and celebrate the artists and their work in my writing. Akiko Kotani was a major influence in my creative life during my academic studies and remains so to this day.<\/p>\n
