The color is magnificent!<\/p>\n<p>Gestures of emotion shattering space<\/p>\n<p>standing beside the red waterfall<\/p>\n<p>She holds the red ball of woven images<\/p>\n<p>displaced from towering shadows<\/p>\n<p>near the painted grey ceiling<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On rainy summer mornings<\/p>\n<p>she examines the contours of a life-journey<\/p>\n<p>capturing shards of fractured gravity<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You are an ancient scribe kneeling<\/p>\n<p>sifting and sorting rubicund threads<\/p>\n<p>harvesting life waiting beneath the surface.<\/p>\n<p>*<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Backstory:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Akiko Kotani is a fiber artist who lives in Florida.\u00a0 She is a retired professor of fine art and I studied with her during my years at Slippery Rock University as I worked to earn my BFA Degree in painting. She mentored me and gave me a passion for fiber art. Recently, I saw photos of her latest work at an art gallery. This poem is the response I wrote while viewing a photo of her standing beside her powerful sculpture of fiber that has the feeling of a\u00a0 red waterfall plunging from the ceiling of the gallery.<\/p>\n<p>Art and artists are the focus and theme for\u00a0 my poetry and non-fiction essays. I honor and celebrate the artists and their work in my writing.
