A Togetherness Poem<\/h3>\n

6 a.m.<\/p>\n

cold and foggy<\/p>\n

I woke up with a headache<\/p>\n

asked for some help –<\/p>\n

Can we write a poem<\/p>\n

together?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He shouted something about<\/p>\n

red roses and blue violets<\/p>\n

then left to take his morning shower.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

8 a.m<\/p>\n

I prepared breakfast<\/p>\n

cooked multi-grains<\/p>\n

a perfect breakfast<\/p>\n

for senior citizens.<\/p>\n

I was waiting<\/p>\n

to begin work<\/p>\n

writing a poem.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

9 a.m.<\/p>\n

I realized the poem<\/p>\n

will have to wait.<\/p>\n

He drove off on his Harley<\/p>\n

A man on a mission<\/p>\n

today is his day to shop<\/p>\n

for his new Harley Sportster<\/p>\n

at Thunder Harley Davidson shop.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

2 p.m.<\/p>\n

I passed some hours in my studio<\/p>\n

cutting, pasting, painting<\/p>\n

to music on the radio.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He shopped around-<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

colors<\/p>\n

choices<\/p>\n

prices<\/p>\n

decisions<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Afternoon shadows lengthened<\/p>\n

diagonal across the road<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

3 p.m.<\/p>\n

I held on to the notion<\/p>\n

of writing a poem today.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

4 p.m.<\/p>\n

I heard the roar of Harley Thunder<\/p>\n

the warrior in black leathers<\/p>\n

returned home.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I thought,<\/p>\n

maybe NOW<\/p>\n

we can write the poem.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

5 p.m.<\/p>\n

I asked<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you ready now?\u201d<\/p>\n

he laughed<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know I can\u2019t write a poem.\u201d<\/p>\n

+<\/p>\n

Besides<\/p>\n

he came home without a new Harley<\/p>\n

too many discussions<\/p>\n

too many choices.<\/p>\n

Backstory:<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

_A Togetherness Poem_<\/strong><\/em>
\nThis poem covers the space of an entire day as I ask my husband to write a poem with me in the early morning. The result of my request develops through dialogue and musings about writing poetry with my husband.\u00a0 I selected this poem to share a relationship I have with my husband.\u00a0 On April 14, we were married sixty one years.<\/p>\n
