The cover art on the sixth annual poetry anthology makes it look inviting and memorable.<\/span><\/p>\n

Like an exquisite artwork, the book\u2019s cover calls the reader to come closer to see what is quietly appearing through the darkness of the night sky. However, a closer look reveals that this is a cityscape. The depth of color is like Indigo blue or inky black. This book cover would stand out from most other books on a display because of the unusual deep color. In addition, the use of deep but bright red for the book title, and white for other text, provides an excellent contrast to the pictorial plane.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If it is true that we can judge this book by its cover,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

the initial impression is to slow down, take some time, breathe, and appreciate the intriguing cover.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Body of Work:<\/span><\/p>\n

When creating poems or artworks, there is always an awareness of the body of work. <\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore, a group of pieces must hold together to make a consistent statement with a clear focus.<\/span><\/p>\n

For this reason,\u00a0 it\u2019s delightful to\u00a0 recognize the\u00a0 First, Second, and Third Prize winners.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In addition,\u00a0 there are\u00a0 \u00a0Five “Special Mention Award<\/span>s,”\u00a0 recognized for “A Body of Work.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Creating the Poem::<\/span><\/p>\n

Materials for poems can come from memories, journal entries, cultural artifacts, found objects, and contemporary communications.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Poems are often a response to particular situations and deeply individual private encounters. Some are chance meetings, and others are fragments from e-mails\u00a0 received\u00a0 or memories from childhood or family life. Poems bring the reader into a private space where they may observe intimate relationships through all of their senses.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
