Dead Poets – Trash Cats – House Wrens
1. What movie can you watch over and over and never tire?
Dead Poets Society
I’ve watched the film countless times – and taught it in my modernity/post-modernity courses in Humanities at Geneva College. Poetry is one of my loves and all-things related to poetry and poets hold great inspiration and interest for me.
Tom Schulman wrote the script that is based on his experiences at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. The movie is inspired by his exceptional English teacher, Samuel Pickering.
2. Who is someone you only met once but they left a big impression on you?
Zig Ziglar. I believe in WINNING. I plan to WIN, prepare to WIN and I expect to WIN.
3. If you had to run away from everyone, where would you hide yourself?
Hallstatt, Austria. This is one of my favorite little villages in Upper Austria. I’d like to be there for a winter –
season because I have only visited Hallstatt on July days – for about 12 summers. See Photos Here!
In my first book, Concerti: Psalms for the Pilgrimage published by Kota Press in January 2003, I have written about Hallstatt, and many other notable and enjoyable places in Austria, and other European places.
4. What is the worst topping to put on a pizza?
Anything that is from an animal, meat or fish – UGH! I love animals but don’t eat them.
5. What do you spend most of your time doing?
I am Thinking about writing poems 24/7. If I am not thinking of writing and composing in my mind, then I am actually writing spare poems, and thoughtful personal essays. I am also a fiber artist, so I always have something “in the works” in my fiber studio. I create exotic and elegant medieval bead working pieces – wall works and talismans – that are museum quality pieces made for exhibitions in art galleries and museum shows.
Bonus: If you could pick any animal to talk, which would it be? Trash Cats
First Thought – Best Thought – Following Allen Ginsberg’s directions for spontaneous writing,
I put down my FIRST THOUGHT – which he says is the BEST THOUGHT. See this book here!
My favorite wild animal is the Opossum. They are quite shy, move quietly through the night, and after enjoying a meal on my porch, they stop to give themselves a bath. They really are meticulous at cleaning up after eating. I’d love to hear about their travels and where they have gone and what they have seen on their night journeys. Why are they known as Trash Cats? See Video Here!
Second Thought – I’m intrigued lately by the pair of house wrens who have selected one of my hanging geranium baskets to build a nest in. Right now the babies have hatched and the parents are flying in and out, all day long, with a beak-full of insects to fee their offspring. This is POEM WORTHY – and on my mind a LOT. I also watch and think about the dedication to family the birds have – their passion and purpose is to care for their babies – and what human parents could learn from their example of faithfulness and dedication.
